The fleet carries Corsair Cove beyond the haven, but every voyage begins in the city economy. Ships need pier capacity, construction materials, crew, supplies, repair support, and a camp capable of sustaining those pirates. The correct fleet is therefore not the largest set of hulls you can queue; it is the set the island can keep operational for the events you intend to pursue.
Build the support chain before the hull
Start with the pier. Shallow Piers support early ship levels, Trade Piers extend the middle progression, and Deep-Water Piers support the final levels in the official Buildings and Ships references. Preserve room and connections around the pier so upgrades do not collide with a crowded shoreline district.
Reserve the listed construction resources, then inspect the crew types unlocked with the ship tier. The pier’s assigned Pirate Camp must contain the community buildings that serve those crew members. A completed hull with unsustainable upkeep is an expensive idle asset.
Use the island’s net resource display after hiring. Ship crew consume continuously even while the next expedition is being planned.
Read tier and class separately
Ship tiers run from 1 to 6 and summarize broad strength. The starter Landlubber serves the opening events. The other twenty-eight ships are aligned with Principle Paths, and their classes specialize differently.
- Prowlers align with Notoriety.
- Destroyers align with Empire and emphasize gun damage and Armour in the official example.
- Hunters align with Seafaring and emphasize Speed in the official quest example.
- Reavers align with Wealth.
A higher tier brings larger capabilities and requirements, but it does not erase class fit. Seven Seas quests can recommend a path-aligned ship and stats suited to that task. The ships guide is the detailed ship lookup for class, tier, hybrid, pier, and crew decisions.
Compare the stats the event actually uses
Ships have general statistics—Health, Crew, and Supplies—and specialized statistics—gun damage, boarding damage, Speed, Manoeuvrability, and Armour. Health and Crew are critical in battle: the official reference says losing either destroys the ship. Supplies can be replenished during battle at a cost to the other two.
Open the event and compare its recommended ship or strengths with the available fleet. Do not force a gun-focused Destroyer into a Speed-oriented challenge simply because its tier is higher. If two ships can succeed, prefer the one whose loss or repair would least disrupt the next objective.
Crew and captains can change the final capability. Record the actual staffed stats, not only the base hull row.
Plan Compass investment around fleet roles
Spending Principle Points unlocks ships automatically at the required thresholds and opens new building groups. A new tier therefore expands both combat capability and the haven’s production obligations.
Adjacent quadrants can unlock stronger hybrid ships at particular borders. The official Compass example combines Empire and Seafaring access to open a Destroyer+ between them. These plus variants cost more than their same-tier path peers but reward a deliberate split.
Choose whether the next points will deepen a specialist class or create an adjacent-path option. The answer should come from upcoming quests, current economy, and the support chains already built.
Embark with a complete checklist
Before assigning an event:
- Confirm the hull is repaired.
- Fill permitted crew roles without creating an upkeep deficit.
- Review Health, Crew, Supplies, and specialized stats.
- Read the event recommendation and any visible risk.
- Confirm the island can operate while the ship is away.
- Keep another ship uncommitted only when its upkeep remains affordable.
Travel across the Seven Seas occurs in real time and commonly takes several minutes. Use that interval to manage the haven. Assigning a second ship to the same event unassigns the first, which then waits in the world for orders.
Explore regions deliberately
Regions begin beneath fog of war and are revealed by sending a ship to their Discovery Point. Fog can return after no ship remains in the region for a while. Discovery is therefore an ongoing fleet task, not a permanent map unlock achieved by one click.
Regional content includes Crown ports, drifting castaways, friendly ports, jetsam, merchant ships or treasure fleets, shipwrecks, smuggling runs, region quest lines, and Principle Path quests. Select events according to ship capability and campaign priorities rather than clearing every icon by distance.
Completing a region’s quest line can convert a location into a Friendly Port. The official wiki states that friendly ports can repair, re-crew, and resupply ships for Coin and island resources without returning to the haven; cargo remains aboard.
Treat naval combat as a loss-risk decision
Corsair Cove’s sea encounters are event-driven and turn-based rather than manual sailing combat. Ships, crew, the captain, and tactical choices determine outcomes. Protect Health and Crew because either reaching zero destroys the ship.
Prepare alternatives before a risky fight: a different class, a higher tier, more appropriate crew, a nearby resupply, or another quest while the island expands. Repeating the same battle without changing the relevant stat exposes the same expensive hull to the same failure.
Exact card order, dice outcomes, and universal winning sequences are not asserted without current 1.0 observation. Read the combat interface and describe the failure in terms of the resource or stat that ran out.
Keep the fleet economically honest
Ships motivate new supply chains, but they can also consume the workers needed to run them. After each new hull, review the pier camp’s upkeep, island Drifters, construction reserves, and repair goods. Pause the next expansion if those values deteriorate.
Maintain variety only when it serves different quest strengths. Four under-crewed hulls are not automatically a better fleet than two supported ships whose roles are clear.
Recover after a failed assignment
If the ship survives but returns depleted, repair and resupply before replacing crew. Identify whether the event exceeded Health, Crew, Supplies, or a specialized stat. If the ship was destroyed, stabilize the haven before ordering an immediate duplicate.
The reconstruction cost can compete with upkeep and Cohesion recovery. Restore basic production, decide whether the same class remains appropriate, and use a lower-risk event to rebuild momentum.
What is the first ship?
The Landlubber is the starter ship and is intended for the first missions and events beyond the haven.
Is the highest tier always best?
Higher tier summarizes greater strength, but class specialization and event recommendations still matter.
How many ships are documented?
The official Ships reference lists the starter plus twenty-eight path-aligned ships, for twenty-nine total in the 1.0 reference.
Can a friendly port replace the home pier?
It can repair, re-crew, and resupply a ship for a cost, but it does not replace the island economy that builds ships and produces the resources involved.
