Corsair Cove Controller Guide

Understand Corsair Cove controller scope, Steam Input, keyboard prompts, glyph mismatches, focus issues, and safe Windows troubleshooting.

Corsair Cove’s Steam feature list does not advertise Full Controller Support on the checked store page. Steam Deck compatibility metadata marks the Windows build Playable through Proton but warns that some controller glyphs may not match the device and that manual keyboard invocation can be required. Treat controller use as a configuration to test, not as guaranteed native parity with keyboard and mouse.

Establish the input scope

On Windows, connect the controller before launching Steam and confirm Steam recognizes it. Open Corsair Cove from the normal library entry for AppID 1368140, not the separate Demo. At the main menu, test directional navigation, confirmation, cancellation, camera movement, selection, and opening the build or settlement interfaces.

Record where input stops. “Controller not working” can mean Steam does not see the device, the game receives no input, one UI panel loses focus, a prompt shows the wrong glyph, or a text field needs a keyboard.

Native input versus Steam Input

Steam Input can map a supported controller to game actions or to keyboard-and-mouse commands. Use the controller settings attached to Corsair Cove in the Steam client and begin with the default or official configuration if one is present. Avoid downloading a complex community layout before testing the baseline.

Change one layer at a time. If the game accepts native input, adding a keyboard-emulation layout can create double actions. If native input is incomplete, a Steam Input mapping can provide access but does not make every panel controller-optimized.

Test the interfaces that matter

Corsair Cove uses dense city-building panels: construction, building details, resource overviews, the Compass, pier and ship selection, captains, the Seven Seas, and turn-based event cards. Test each category with a disposable save before committing to a controller-only session.

Island selection

Confirm camera pan, zoom, rotation, building selection, placement, and connection controls remain predictable.

Management panels

Check focus order through lists, tooltips, sliders, tabs, and close buttons. A visible highlight should follow every directional move.

World and events

Verify ship assignment, event selection, card choice, battle/support toggle, and confirmation without accidental double input.

Text entry

Save names or other fields may require a physical or on-screen keyboard, especially on Steam Deck.

Fix duplicate or missing actions

If one button triggers twice, disable one competing layer: either the game’s native mapping or the Steam Input emulation used for that action. Disconnect extra gamepads, wheels, or virtual controllers during the test. Restart the game after changing the input layer so the device is enumerated cleanly.

If no actions register, verify the controller works in Steam’s own interface and another known title. Then test Corsair Cove with the default configuration. Use Steam’s file verification only when the game installation may be damaged; it cannot fix a controller that the operating system does not detect.

Handle incorrect glyphs

Valve compatibility notes reported through the Steam Deck record include mismatched controller icons. When a prompt differs from the physical button, follow the active Steam Input layout rather than the picture. Keep the layout simple and label any custom radial menu or keyboard mapping clearly.

Wrong glyphs are a usability issue, not proof that the action is unavailable. Capture the panel, shown glyph, controller model, active layout, and expected button for a useful report.

Mouse or focus problems

If the mouse pointer disappears or a panel stops accepting clicks after controller input, disconnect or disable the controller layer and relaunch to test pure mouse-and-keyboard input. If that works, restore the controller with the default layout and reproduce the exact transition that loses focus.

Do not apply an unrelated display, ultrawide, or engine tweak to an input-focus issue. A focused reproduction—such as “opening the Compass after moving the camera with controller prevents selection”—is actionable.

Steam Deck notes

Deck Playable is not the same as Verified. Keep access to the on-screen keyboard and trackpads for text or mouse-oriented panels. Review the current compatibility details in Steam before relying on older glyph or layout reports. The Steam Deck page covers display text and graphics setup too.
